closedVoicemail - server drops call while trying to listen to messages

Voicemail problem. The system intercepts calls just as I have set it to do. The system sends the email with the message attached just as I have requested it to do.
But in trying to clear the messages from the server I have a problem. The system answers the call and invites me to press 1 for new messages. When I have done so it starts on the next announcement "First message <audible click> received " and then it immediately clears down.
Obviously something is stuck. I have tried leaving an additional message, but that only confirmed the situation. I tried adjusting the account settings so that it would not store messages on the server, but there has (so far) been no observable change to the system behaviour. It also seems to make no difference whether I am using a hardware phone or a softphone. Using a different IP address to connect brings no benefit either.
I'm puzzled, and lost. Can you please point me in the right direction?

I looked into this and it was caused by a server configuration error. It should be fixed now.

Many thanks for your very swift attention. You swiftly and accurately identified the cause and corrected it.
I have called the voicemail, heard all the messages, and deleted the unwanted ones. All working exactly as I hoped it would.
