Can't successfully call 08* numbers despite the account being in credit. Please can you advise?

Can you provide example of a call that fails? You can find the calls in the web page of your account.

I think that the problem may be due to the absence of a caller ID, because all other calls to standard PSTN numbers are routing correctly.
Please could you assign caller id to bb120tp@sip2sip.info?

Sadly my theory regarding caller ID was incorrect, as I still can't call U 08* numbers.
Here is a extract from the log for one of the failed calls:

This was/is caused by our PSTN provided and is nothing we can do about it.
