Description

Until a few months ago, I was able to get sip2sip voicemail via email. It's not working anymore (and no configuration changes were made prior to this). I tried it with 2 different emails and neither works, so am pretty sure the problem is with sip2sip. Test calls do appear under the History tab, and there is a prompt to leave a message, so everything works as before except that email is not sent.

Note: This was opened as a duplicate of #1699, which was closed with no explanation. It would be better to reopen that and close this.

I do see a call to your vm account. However I don't see that a message was left. If the message is not stored you won't get any email.

Please try to record a message and I will monitor the console to see what happens.

I just tried it again, twice. At the end of the recorded message (which does not specify the voicemail number, as mentioned in http://wiki.sip2sip.info/issues/1699#note-3 ) it offers a choice of either hanging up or pressing the pound key. The first time I pressed the pound key after leaving a message, and I did indeed get an email, but the audio was completely garbled (I can attach it if you want). The second time, I simply hung up after leaving a message, and I did not receive an email at all.

Ignore what I said about the audio being garbled previously. I just installed Fedora 19 and apparently there is a bug with the default player causing it to garble audio. When I play the same audio file with mplayer, it sounds fine. So the only problem is that I only got the email the first time. Since then, I've tried a few more times, both pressing the pound key or just hanging up. I get no more emails either way, so it only worked that first time.

I changed some settings for the recording of the messages. Can you please test again?

I tried again twice, once hanging up and once pressing the pound key first, and did not get an email for either call.

Please keep in mind that a msg needs to be 3s long + 2s silence before it it accepted

Just tried again, twice. Each time, almost immediately after the tone, it says "Thank You" and hangs up, without waiting for me to finish my message and either hang up or press the pound key. No email is received.

By the way, the time requirements you just gave are a problem. The recorded message simply states that one must wait until after the tone, then after leaving a message, either hang up or press the pound key. It doesn't mention these time requirements. In particular, someone in a hurry is unlikely to wait 2 seconds in silence after leaving a message before hanging up. If these time limits are necessary, then they should be explicitly mentioned in the recorded message.

BTW, in my previous call attempts, each time I pressed the pound key at the end, the voice said "Thank You", so it did recognize that I left a message, so the fact that I didn't get an email is not due to that.

You misunderstand. The silence is optional. If you hangup and the message is bigger then the minimum time it will be saved. If the message is less then minimum time it will not be saved and you get no email.

You will only get an email if a valid message is left according to these things.

I just lowered the minimum message duration to 1s and I lowered the silence detection (so it needs less noise before 'silence' is assumed) and raised the hangup time for silence to 4s.

This will mean that it should now detect your voice and wait longer before it will hang up. If it still not working I can lower the silence detection threshold again to see if this makes any difference.

It seems to be working mostly normally now - I'm getting an email for each message, either if I press the pound key, or just hang up. However, on one of my call attempts, I did not hear the recorded female voice at all - there was just silence, it hung up after several seconds, then I got an email with 1 second of silence. On the other attempts, it worked normally.
